Damage Claims

Last updated

1. Who is responsible

FreightAutos is a service of MilestoneBrokers LLC, a licensed property broker. The licensed motor carrier that moves your vehicle is responsible for loss or damage while the vehicle is in its care. A claim for that damage is made against the carrier, and we help you prepare and send it.

2. At pickup

  • Inspect the vehicle with the driver before it is loaded.
  • Make sure any existing damage, such as scratches, dents or chips, is noted on the bill of lading (the inspection report the driver fills in).
  • Take dated photos of every side of the vehicle, the roof, the wheels and the odometer.
  • Keep your copy of the bill of lading.

3. At delivery

  • Inspect the vehicle with the driver before you sign, in good light if you can.
  • Note any new damage on the bill of lading, and take photos before the driver leaves.
  • If you find damage after the driver has left, take photos right away and tell us.

4. Report the damage to us

Tell us about the damage within 24 hours of delivery. Email Michael@freightautos.com, and have ready:

  • your reference number, if you have one (references from our website start with FA-)
  • your copy of the bill of lading
  • your photos from pickup and delivery
  • a short description of the damage

5. Send a written claim

Send your written claim within 9 months of delivery, or of the date the vehicle should have been delivered if it was lost. Include the documents above and a repair estimate or invoice for the amount you are claiming.

6. What happens next

We send your claim to the carrier and keep you updated. The carrier, or its insurer, decides on the claim under the carrier's terms and the law.

7. Our role

We are a broker, so we are not liable as a carrier for damage in transit. Our terms of service describe our own liability.
